The bridge was out
There was nowhere to go
The cops were gathering their cars
All driving towards us
From their various
Directions
And you sat there so calm
And cool
Your hands on the steering wheel
I was panicked
Beside you
You knew your fate
I wasn’t ready for this fate
I realized how reckless you were
In this moment
Where every part of me wanted
To be anywhere else
You sat knowing
Exactly where you were
“oh fuck” I yelled
“lets get out of here”
“nah” you said
Turning the car
To face the cops
I squirmed
You stayed still
You got out holding the gun
I was holding the handle to the door
I fell to my knees outside the car
You held the gun out and pulled the trigger
Shooting over their heads
The return fire
Filling you with lead
Soon you too
Were on your knees
Clutching your chest
Tears fell from my eyes
As cuffs clasped my wrists
I watched your last sigh
And your eyes grew still
Your soul left
Too restless for this life
I was not ready to go
So I stayed and wept
